By: Hazel Sjamsudin and Lee Won Hee
Saint Ursula High School students recently discovered unexpected items in the school’s lost and found, previously owned by former students.A competition trophy, undershirts, and a pianika have been found in Saint Ursula High School lost and found. Based on an interview with one of the janitors, most lost belongings are found in classrooms before being stored in the lost and found section of the makeup room. Most of the time, lost items are retrieved within a week. However, if students are not conscious of their lost belongings, they could possibly be left unclaimed and stored in the school’s lost and found. That is the case with the competition trophy, undershirts, and pianika, which are still stored in the lost and found.“I often find that my friends lose their belongings because they are distracted by what they are doing at the moment,” answered Cicha when asked about the reason people lose their belongings. She
also added later on that students have various tasks, classes, and interactions, which can divert their attention away from keeping track of their personal items, leading to accidental misplacement or forgetfulness.“Losing one of my belongings can be quite an uncomfortable feeling. There’s an initial sense of frustration and anxiety as I realize something I value is no longer where I expected it to be,” said Indy, one of Saint Ursula High School students who has lost her belongings before. Other than the discomfort that comes with losing an item, Indy pointed out that it also serves as a reminder for the school community and staff to be more careful with their belongings and to utilize the lost and found services
provided by the school.Student awareness of their belongings varies widely. Some students are highly conscious of their belongings, regularly checking to make sure they have everything with them. Others might be less
attentive, especially when they are engrossed in activities or social interactions. Additionally, students become more aware of their belongings when they notice items missing. The number of lost belongings has been a concern for the school. In regards to that, the school often provides reminders and resources like the lost and found section to help students retrieve their misplaced items, contributing to their awareness of the issue.
